This is a premium selected bald cypress bonsai forest kit. It will include trees from 1/4" up to nearly 1" in caliper to make a great looking forest like the picture. We select the biggest and best we have. It will include trees, plastic sheeting to line the pot and the large 15" x 20" oval mica pot. You will need to get the soil mixed up before the kit arrives. You would want something like composted cow manure, bark fines, and a little pearlite. You line the pot with plastic, fill 1/2 up with soil, and start setting trees where you want them, then finish back filling all the way up with the soil mix. Tamp down and water off. I make pin holes in the plastic through the bottom drain holes, so that the water does not stand forever, but drains very slowly. After a couple days, cut off the excess plastic with a single edge razor blade at the top edge. Eventually you will always fill the pot to the rim with water, but not necessarily in the beginning. This creates the swamp and will cause the trees to develop cypress knees and keep the buttress swelling up. Fertilize with organic fertilizer a lot. Trim, trim, trim. Jin the tops of the larger trees. You can cut down the trees to the desired height at anytime. Top off the soil mix with our bonsai soil eventually for a better look still. The nice thing about the mica pot, is that after about 3 years, you can pull the forest out and use the pot to make another forest with any trees you have available. Use an 18" drip tray for displaying. The value of a finished forest like this is $450 to $700 depending on its developement time. These trees are dormant during the winter. We have these available again as of 4/1/09
