This is a Chinese Shantung Maple or acer truncatum bonsai starter. These are very hardy maples and have a very broad range of growth, from zone 3 to 9. These are 2 year olds and will show branching before the end of this year. They put on large base caliper quickly and show rooting or nebari quickly as well. Super back budding and branching. I have some now that have gone to 3/4" caliper in one year out of this same batch planted into 3 gal. pots. White/grey rough texture bark. These make excellent bonsai material. Rarer than japanese green or red maple. The leaves reduce nicely to less than an inch. 3 trees and the pencil were used for size and type reference. Price is for one tree. We have a limited but very nice selection of these this year. They are single stem, no branches, but very nice size ready for branching this year. Very good looking material considering what we usually have in the most recent years.
